Your may know that your child brain is busy building its wiring system from birth. This wiring system consists of neurons (brain cells), their connecting fibers (axons), as well as the connections between them (synapses). When you talk to your child, for example, her brain sends chemical signals along the neurons which then crosses over the synapses and causes more connections to be formed with other neurons. The speed at which this information is transmitted is dependent on the special insulation of the neuron which is called myelin.
